Fiction Books: read for enjoyment while learning English

Nonfiction Books to Help with English Language Development

  • I am Malala (young readers edition) by Malala Yousafzai. The inspiring true story of a young girl who stood up for girls' education in Pakistan and was shot by the Taliban. 
  • A Long Walk to the Water by Linda Sue Park. Based on a true story, it follows two children in Sudan, one a real "Lost Boy" refugee.
  • What was the Underground Railroad? by Yona Zeldis McDonough. This gripping story explains how brave people, black and white, risked their lives to help enslaved people escape to freedom.
